The Legacy of Giving Award is not given on a schedule. It is given when a family, an individual or a partner has done something that changed what this Foundation is able to do — and kept doing it, often for decades.
The Clawson Family
Advocacy & event leadership
The Clawsons have served as Unite Walk Chair and Advocacy Coalition Chair, and they host the Heroes in the Hills Golf Tournament each year. Their leadership in Austin is a direct reason Texas families have the access to care they have today.
The de la Riva Family
Twenty years of leadership
Debbie de la Riva served as Executive Director of the chapter, and the family’s dedication to the bleeding disorders community over more than twenty years helped make this Foundation what it is today.
The Martin Family
Founding Unite Walk Chairs
As founding Unite Walk Chairs, the Martins gave and opened doors across the community, and helped build what became the largest fundraising Walk in the country. That support let the Foundation move into its first real office in 2008 — out of Debbie de la Riva’s upstairs office — and hire additional staff. Scott Martin has since served as Chair of the National Bleeding Disorders Foundation board and founded a pharmaceutical company advancing treatment for hemophilia B.
The Foster Family
New family resources
The Fosters’ support started initiatives that reach families at the moment they need them most — the Foundation’s Travel Guides, and the New Family Backpacks that every family receives when they join, personalized to their disorder.
Kodiak Cares Foundation
Rural outreach & education
Kodiak’s support allowed the Foundation to take the next step in rural outreach and education, reaching school nurses, rural emergency departments and hospitals with training on how to treat bleeding disorders — in Galveston, Corpus Christi, Harlingen and as far west as El Paso. Their support also made it possible to hire the Foundation’s Outreach Coordinator.
